THE Discourses, Reviews, and Sermons, composing the present volume, have, several of them, been already issued separately; and of the opening article, the present is the third edition; others of them appear now for the first time. It was thought, by some of the author's friends, that the book might find purchasers; and the writer will have been recompensed, should it please "The Great Taskmaster" to give to the desultory pages aught of usefulness, in their influence on the minds of any of their readers.
