Ante hos viginti annos cum post octo annorum praeparationem et itinera, virorum summorum Ernesti Meyer, Linkii, Schlechtendalii, Endlicheri, Fenzelii, Alphonsi de Candolle, Hadriani de Jussieu, Laseguii, Webbii, Leonis Comitis Henckel a Donnersmarck ceterorumque multorum de arte botanica optime meritorum opera magnopere adjutus thesaurum librorum botanicorum locupletissimum condidissem, ex eo tempore tantis laudibus et benevolentiae documentis tantum non ab omnibus rei herbariae studiosis profectis affectus sum, ut facere non possum, quin librum refictum et usque ad recentissimum tempus suppletum iterum ederem.

Ut vero eum plenitudinis gradum, quem ipse cummaxime expetendum esse censui, attingere possem, id potissimum larga librorum copia effectum est, quam horti Regii Kewensis, societatis botanicae Francogallicae, horti botanici Patavini bibliothecae praestantissimae suppeditabant, quibus his novissimis annis usus sum. Quarum bibliothecarum usus Josephi Hookeri, Danielis Oliveri, A. Laseguü, Roberti de Visiani summa liberalitate mihi est concessus, quibus viris optime de me meritis gratias ago quam maximas.

Praeterea hanc iteratam editionem augendam censui et additis commentariolis biographicis ex fontibus petitis, et lectoribus ad Regiae Societatis Londinensis Catalogum praestantissimum relegandis.
