The following Work is edited from “Ahn's First French Reading Book," and "contains many hundreds of single sentences selected from classical French authors, arranged to illustrate the parts of speech : these sentences contain a choice selection of the most beautiful thoughts, and supply the teacher with rich materials for instruction. To these is added a selection of Interesting Anecdotes, adapted to the understanding of the beginner, which can be translated without difficulty.

Then follow Stories from Natural History, which commend themselves by their simplicity and purity of language ; and, with the exception of four pieces, have been prepared from Buffon. There are also easy Fables from Fénélon, D’Antelmy and others, followed by pleasing Narratives from Le Sage, St. Pierre, &c. ; and the work concludes with selections in verse, from eminent French Poets.”

New Edition. The Editors are indebted to M. Lorin, Professor of the French language, for the revision of the proof sheets of this edition.
